Do you find students turn their noses up at native water rats?
Are rakali left out of student lists of important aquatic creatures?
Do they know they are one and the same?
It’s a common problem!
In 2025, rakali were voted Australia’s most underrated animal in an ABC National Science Week poll.
We are pleased to be chatting to not one but TWO rakali experts in different fields;
For secondary students Dr Emmalie Sanders, Charles Sturt University research associate and
for primary students Dr Stephanie Owen Reeder, author of the picture story book ‘Rakali of the Riverbank’.
We’d love YOUR questions (either as staff or students) to guide our chats about rakali, whether they are friend or foe and the important work both ladies are doing to bust some common myths.
Take a look at this secondary school invite or primary school invite and submit your questions via email to riverdetectives@nccma.vic.gov.au by Wednesday 27th May.
To meet your diverse needs this session will NOT be live online but recorded. Your questions will be posed to our experts then the webinar will be available on the River Detectives website as a flexible option to view on-demand when the time is right for you.
