Because Costa was the host of the 2025 ResourceSmart Schools Awards held at the MCG on June 5th and SIX River Detectives schools were finalists across various categories with the River Detectives program mentioned in the nomination spiel Costa read out.
What a thrill!!
Congratulations to Victory Christian College (Bendigo) who won the Curriculum Leadership Secondary School of the Year. A large part of the nomination was their innovative collaborative community project at Kennington Reservoir where they regularly test water quality. Take a look at the project here.

And congratulations to Marita Ryan, Albion Primary School who won Primary Teacher of the Year. Marita has been a passionate River Detectives educator since 2016!
Huge kudos to the other River Detectives schools who made it as finalists and presented some wonderful displays in the event showcase. It was great being there with you and saying g’day: Siena Catholic Primary School, St James’ Parish School, Sebastopol, Castlemaine Steiner School and Kindergarten and Pleasant Street Primary School, Wendouree: CDS Vic Excellence Award (Corangamite CMA region)
The River Detectives and ResourceSmart Schools programs work really well together.
If you are already involved in both, ask your River Detectives coordinator or RSS facilitator how to get the most out of the collaboration.
If you are not a ResourceSmart school, signing up and maintaining an active registration are easy and you could get extra support for the River Detectives program. Ask us how!
